Personal Safety Is A Habit Not A Fear

Personal Safety Is A Habit Not A Fear

Posted on 29. Jan, 2010 by Kelly in Boundaries, Gut Feelings, Personal Safety

My students tell me their family members think they are scared or paranoid because they lock doors even when they are home and in the car.

One person on Twitter eluded to the fact that having your children’s cartoon image with their approximate age and name on your back vehicle window was not dangerous. IT IS! Ask any pedophile who wants an easy target.

The fact is, paranoia will freeze you with fear and fear is the most dangerous  mindset of all.

Good, common sense safety habits include:

  1. trusting and following gut feelings
  2. establishing and enforcing personal boundaries
  3. confident body language

Personal safety is fun and simple and the benefits impact your entire life in a positive manner.

The people who call you paranoid for being safe and aware are oblivious.

Be safe and share your thoughts on that little bubble to the right of the title.

Were our parents being paranoid when they taught us to NOT talk to strangers? Were they attracting incoming traffic when they taught us to look both ways when crossing the street? Then how are these different from personal protection? It is not paranoia; it is preventive measures. If common sense does not motivate you to increase your personal awareness and safety, maybe convenience will: What would you rather deal with? The 5 minutes it takes you to secure your home, or the coming years of physical and emotional trauma and suffering from a possible attacker? I don’t know about you, but I sometimes choose the easier way.
