Fear, Self-Esteem and Safety – Can You Say, “Intertwingled?”

Posted on 22. Mar, 2009 by Kelly in Personal Safety

Remember, fear is the most dangerous mindset of all and makes you look weak and insecure, like I felt earlier today…fortunately, I was safe in my office or creeps could have easily seen my vulnerability!

Here’s my story:

I was just working on a new safety blog for a large client today and realized how scary it is for me to change the WordPress template colors, etc. All of the technical stuff can freak me out due to fear I’ll mess something up permanently.

My blogging instructor and coach, Cathy Perkins, The WordPress Wizard helped me do what I needed to do.

I told her how scary it was at first and then how fun it became once I’d had some success (with her instruction) and didn’t blow up my computer or anything (Ha!). You know what Cathy said? She said, “That’s the same thing you said last year, in my class, when we did this.”

This project today has really helped my self-esteem with regard to technical things. I am my own webmaster but some of it still makes me shiver. (I must have residual fear from building my first webiste.)

Also, this goes to show you that someone who can stand up in front of thousands of people and speak, and fight the most skilled fighting instructors still has fear about something that seems so simple and dare I say “stupid” to many people.

Also, it is a good lesson in getting help when you need it. I’ve learned to do that although I pride myself on being independent. The world today is “interdependent” as my good friend and mentor Alex Mandossian says. That means, no matter how independent you are, no one succeeds alone. That was my lesson this year as I began to work heavily with joint venture partners in order to “succeed with others.” It actually was instrumental in my winning a first place prize I’ve been dreaming about for two years!!! T. Harv Eker’s Guerrilla Business School!

And another thing. What we fear has everything to do with our personality style. Cathy Perkins is more analytical than I am and is excellent at technical things. I am more extroverted than Cathy so when I took a picture with her in San Francisco a couple weeks ago, she hid behind my hair! Personality styles are amazing and I am providing training on them in a quick, 20-minute TeleSeminar/WebCast on April 2.

Oh, and the FREE “Personality Styles For Safety’s Sake” event is there to sign up for too.

So, what freaks you out? Tell me some things you do that are daring and the stupid things that invoke fear so I’ll have some company here! Ha, ha! Leave me a comment and throw in your website if you have one!

Be Safe!

    Kelly-

First…what a great site! Will be checking it out better after this comment! I love, love, love Cathy Perkins and Alex Mandossian. Both are so inspirational and motivating. Cathy has awesome information and is truly “The WordPress Wizard”.

Yes, intertwingled is a word–LOL and I feel yu pain with the techy stuff in WP but it is a good thing we have great people to be interdependent on. Adding you to my list!

Great post. Look forward to connecting with you again!

Your self-defense videos are great! Thank you for that helpful information. It’s good not to live in fear, but it’s also good to be smart, and that’s what I take away from what you’re saying. Thank you!
