Attacker Mindset (You’ve Been In It)

Attacker Mindset (You’ve Been In It)

Posted on 18. Jan, 2010 by Kelly in Personal Safety

There are 4 different types of attacks:

  1. Verbal
  2. Mental
  3. Emotional
  4. Physical

All attackers are in the same mindset when they attack. Here are the 4 characteristics:

  1. Insecure
  2. Low Self-Esteem
  3. Feel out of control of their own life
  4. Control someone else to get a power fix

Realize we’ve all been in the attacker mindset before and will undoubtedly go there again. The 4th characteristic is the kicker (no pun intended). The first 3 characteristics can be dealt with in a mature manner. The issue arises when the 4th characteristic of control comes into play.

Knowing where the attackers’ head is at changes your entire perspective, doesn’t it?

Since I first encountered Kelly’s brilliant safety tips over a year ago, my whole perspective on safety has changed. Instead of feeling more fearful, I feel more confident. Knowing how much my internal thoughts and choices affect my safety is very comforting. Also knowing some of the specifics about what to do and not to do is critical, and so comforting.

Thanks for the great points about the mindset of an attacker. I also appreciate your wise observation that we have all been in the attacker mindset. Realizing this helps us to understand the mentality that attackers have, which again will help us protect ourselves.

Information is power, and you are great at delivering the information I want and need on personal safety. I thank you profusely for making my world feel and be safer.
